Short answer: plan on about 5 salt bricks or tiles per square foot of wall. That covers the 4.5 pieces that actually fit plus roughly 10% extra for cuts, breakage and color matching.
The formula
- Measure the wall's width and height in feet.
- Multiply them to get square feet. Example: 6 ft x 8 ft = 48 sq ft.
- Each 8" x 4" brick or tile covers 32 square inches (0.22 sq ft) face-on, so 4.5 pieces cover 1 sq ft.
- Multiply your square feet by 4.5, then add 10% for spares: 48 x 4.5 = 216, plus 10% = about 238 pieces.

How much adhesive?
One tube of Salt Adhesive sets about 30 bricks or tiles. A 48 sq ft wall with 238 pieces needs about 8 tubes.
Bricks or tiles?
Both are 8" x 4" on the face. Bricks are 2" thick and weigh about 5.5 lb each; tiles are 1" thick and about 2.5 lb. Tiles are lighter, cheaper to ship and glow brighter when backlit; bricks give a deeper, more solid look.
Shipping weight
A 238-piece wall weighs about 1,300 lb in bricks or 600 lb in tiles. Orders over 300 lb ship by freight on a pallet — use the freight estimator in your cart for a quote.
