The Chef's Slab — Himalayan Salt Cooking Block 12x8x1.5
Description
Himalayan Salt Cooking Block
Sear, chill, cure, and serve on a slab that seasons everything it touches. Cut from solid pink halite formed over hundreds of millions of years, this block goes from stovetop to table and does the work of a griddle, a serving platter, and a seasoning all at once.
Cook on it. Salt holds heat exceptionally well. Bring the block up to temperature gradually and it will sear scallops, thin steaks, shrimp, and vegetables with a clean, even crust and a subtle mineral finish.
Serve on it. Used at room temperature, it makes a striking board for charcuterie, cheese, sliced steak, bread, and appetizers — a centerpiece that seasons lightly as it serves.
Chill on it. Freeze or refrigerate the block and it holds cold for well over an hour, ideal for sashimi, crudo, fruit, and desserts.
Because salt draws moisture away from its surface, it's naturally inhospitable to bacteria — one reason it's been used to cure and preserve food for thousands of years.
Seasoning tip: The block seasons by contact, so moisture and time control how much salt transfers. A quick sear or a short serving window gives a light touch. Wet, high-moisture foods — sliced tomatoes, melon, dressed salads — pick up much more salt the longer they sit, so plate those just before serving or keep the block cold.
